why infrared sauna?

According to Ari Whitten, author of Red Light Therapy, “Red and near-infrared light therapy are one of the biggest break-through discoveries in health in the last half century. Scientists have quietly accumulated thousands of studies on the power of red and near-infrared light to enhance human health for the last several decades. And yet, most people have never even heard of it.”

“Red and near-infrared light are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and more specifically, part of the spectrum of light emitted by the sun (and fire light). These wavelengths of light are ‘bioactive’ in humans. That means that these types of light literally affect the function of our cells.”

“Some of the benefits of red light and infrared therapy include:

  • increased energy

  • anti-aging - reduces wrinkles and helps get rid of cellulite

  • speeds up fat loss

  • improves muscle recovery and athletic performance

  • improves mood and cognitive function

  • speeds up healing from injury

  • improves metabolism and hormonal health”

Infrared sauna has the same if not more benefits as a traditional sauna but without all the fire and water. The infrared light in the sauna is what generates the heat. It is the same radiated heat, or infrared light, that we feel from the warmth of the sun, from the heat of a campfire as well as the heat that is emitted by our bodies. It’s the most basic form of heat known to man. (Herschel Infrared Heat).

What’s important to know is infrared light has various wavelengths that penetrate the body to different degrees. The NIR (near infrared) hits the outer layer of the skin or epidermis, the MIR (mid infrared) goes deeper to the dermis and FIR (far infrared) can penetrate the skin to the subcutis layer to the sweat glands. The saunas at blu bodhi sauna bar are Sunlighten Saunas which use a combination of near, mid and far infrared and are known as ‘full spectrum’. Full spectrum saunas have been around since 1979.

There are six different programs that you can choose from to target or enhance your wellness goals; detoxification, weight loss, relaxation, pain relief, anti-aging and cardio. Some of the benefits of regular infrared sauna use include increased tissue repair, muscle relief, vascular access to reach toxins at the cellular level, stress reduction, improved overall skin elasticity and firmness, promoting anti-aging and temporary decrease in blood pressure - as well as improving overall health and well-being. Infrared sauna helps ease pain, relieve inflammation and protect against oxidative stress. [Infrared Therapy: Health Benefits and Risks - New- Miedical.net Jan 30, 2019)

As more information continues to surface in support of light therapies and all they can do for our bodies and our existence, and with bio-hackers taking their health into their own hands and moving the needle on different wellness modalities - to the benefit of us all - the more apt question might be, why not infrared srauna? Who doesn’t want to feel good in their body or alleviate pain? Who wouldn’t want to recover faster from injury or help regenerate new cell growth for tighter skin? Let’s be honest, no one’s getting younger.

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or are on certain medications, please check with your doctor before booking your sauna.
